A hay probe is a sharpened metal tube that is used to take a representative sample of the forage in a bale of hay. KCD’s hay probe (also called a core sampler) is available to borrow at no charge. Forage samples are then sent to a laboratory for nutritional analysis. Knowing the nutrient composition of hay can help match a feeding program to animal requirements and also help with marketing hay to potential customers.
