An eager and motivated 16 members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints volunteered their time to care for and maintain the KCD Native Plant Nursery on Saturday, September 7th for the annual City of Renton Day of Caring. The team helped by securing wayward trees with twine and sweeping the walkways of dirt and fallen leaves. Keeping the nursery clean is important to remove dirt that could host the next generation of weeds. The volunteers also helped the aquatic rushes, sedges and grasses by removing seed heads and watering. Thanks to the help of great volunteer groups like this one, KCD is able to grow native plants for shoreline restoration projects.

Volunteers can also earn credit to purchase native plants to use on their projects or in landscaping by doing this great work in KCD’s Nursery. If you would like to bring a group out to the nursery or to do work at a KCD restoration project, contact KCD Volunteer Coordinator nikki.wolf@kingcd.org or sign up to volunteer at an upcoming event.
