Matsuda Farm to Vashon Schools
Description
Matsuda Farm will build two movable high tunnels to increase the shoulder-season production of produce for Vashon Island School District. For ten years, Vashon Island School District has prepared meals from scratch using whole foods to make available to its 1,600 students. As a result, enrollment for school lunches has soared to 50% and 30% for breakfast. Because no wholesale growers are on Vashon Island, all of that produce has been trucked onto the Island – until now.
