Douglas Fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii)
How tall can you grow? The mighty Douglas fir tree is one of the fastest growing evergreen trees and can reach up to 250 feet tall. These evergreens like well-drained soil and make great windbreakers and sources of firewood. They also have that cozy Pacific Northwest fir tree smell. While Douglas fir trees like full sun, they create a perfect setting for shade plants. Wildlife, such as elk and tailed deer, like to snack on Douglas fir’s foliage, and the cones and needles become a significant source of winter food for blue grouse and other birds.
