“Dig In” is a radio show airing Sunday mornings at 10:00 AM on SPACE 101.1 FM KMGP, a people-powered arts-oriented radio station in Northeast Seattle’s Magnuson Park. Hosted by KCD’s AmeriCorps member Natalie Quist, “Dig In” showcases local gardening, food and agriculture.
Dig In’s first episode focuses on soil and plant health, and talks about what you can plant and harvest in your garden this time of year.
Here at KCD, we believe a good foundation to a great garden is healthy soil. After all, conservation districts were originally established as SOIL conservation districts after the Dust Bowl as a way to protect farmers and ranchers from future soil erosion. The best way to know if your soil is healthy is to take a soil test. KCD offers five free soil tests for District residents (with the exclusion of City of Enumclaw, City of Federal Way, City of Milton, City of Pacific and City of Skykomish).
Find KCD’s Soil Testing Fact Sheet and Submittal Form here.
And great instructions on how to take a soil test are here.

Finally, find your farmers market in the Washington State Farmers Market Association Member Market Directory and find farms and farmers markets in the Washington Food Finder as well.
