Keeping your garden soil healthy and balanced with the right nutrients is one of the most important ways to support your garden’s success. KCD’s Community Agriculture Team is happy to support the fertility of community garden soils in King County through our annual free Loop® compost distribution program. Loop® compost is a safe and nutrient-rich soil amendment created from biosolids from wastewater treated in King County. In partnership with King County Wastewater Treatment Division (WTD), KCD’s Community Ag Team helped distribute 167 pickup truck loads totaling approximately 335 cubic yards of free Loop® compost. We reached 43 of our amazing community garden partners in this record-breaking distribution year.
Not only does Loop® support beautiful and productive gardens to foster local nutrition, but it also provides an educational opportunity about “closed loop” systems and the importance of cycling nutrients back into the soil. KCD and WTD partnered to host two free virtual workshops on Loop® compost and soil fertility as well this spring. Contact KCD’s community agriculture team at communityag@kingcd.org if your community garden is interested in staying in the “loop” with information on future free resources offerings!
