Rainier Beach Action Coalition (RBAC) was awarded a $70,000 grant for their Food Justice Fellowship program in 2019. This program was specifically developed to guide youth that participated in the farm stand fellowship, into the next stage of their development in the food justice movement. While the program started in 2020, fellows met and learned as group online by facilitating meetings, sharing cultural experiences, as well as out in the field at Nurturing Roots Farm. Also in 2020, instead of opening the farm stand as in previous years, they offered free produce to the community and gave away thousands of pounds of produce to a line of community members that wrapped around several blocks of the Rainier Beach neighborhood.
