John Bethel, a Licensed Geologist and Engineering Geologist in Washington State, will be presenting at the upcoming Where the Water Begins workshops and beach walks about the geological features relevant to marine beach and bluff homeowners of the Puget sound region.
John received his Bachelor’s in Geology in 1977 and Master’s in Forest Soils in 1982. A former Senior Geologist for King County, he spent 30 years working on reviewing permit applications in geologically hazardous areas, developing King County Code related to geologic hazards, and managing stream restoration and channel stabilization projects.
Where the Water Begins provides marine beach and bluff homeowners with information on minimizing slope instability and landslides, using native vegetation to reduce erosion, and improving fish and wildlife habitat.
Workshop topics covered by John will include:
- Geologic History of Puget Sound Shorelines
- Coastal Bluff Processes
- Beach Formation and Longshore Drift
Be sure to join him and our other marine shoreline experts at one of the upcoming Where the Water Begins workshops and beach walks on May 14 and 21.
