Where The Water Begins Events Highlight Shore Friendly Living

Puget sound beach and bluff property owners joined KCD on two beautiful Saturdays in May for our Where the Water Begins workshops and beach walks.

Vashon

Attendees heard from our knowledgeable presenters Kollin Higgins, Senior Ecologist with King County, John Bethel, Licensed Engineering Geologist, and Elliott Menashe, Forester and Natural Resource planner who provided insight into the ecology and geology of this unique region. They also learned some options for preventing events such as landslides, erosion, and loss of habitat through tools like vegetation management, water management, and hard armor removal.

Landslide at Dash Point

During the beach walk attendees were given the opportunity to view examples of the topics discussed during our workshop close-up. They learned about our native plants, where they like to grow, and how they can help reduce likelihood of erosion events like this shallow landslide seen at Dash Point State Park with their massive root systems.
