Gunnar was born and raised in Lincoln City, Oregon and Ocean Shores, Washington. Literally, a west coast guy.

He got his AA from Grays Harbor College. His BA Geography (GIS focus) and a minor in the Norwegian Language is from the University of Washington. He has a U.S. Navy Intelligence Specialist certification, Navy and Marine Corps Intelligence from Training Center in Dam Neck, Virginia.

His career in the Naval Reserve was Primarily with a small, Washington based, satellite unit of the Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) in DC and he would often conduct working trips out to Parent command at ONI. From 2018 to 2019 he deployed to The Combined Joint Task Force – Horn of Africa (CJTF – HOA) on Camp Lemonnier, Djibouti, working as a counter terror/political and military analyst with their Somalia division. During his time in Africa, he provided intelligence support to the decision makers at CJTF – HOA and supported a cell of U.S. Military personnel, both remotely and in-person, in Mogadishu, Somalia. In September of 2020, he was accepted into the University of Washington and in 2022 my contract with the U.S. Navy expired.

His hobbies include traveling (18+ countries so far!), hiking, camping, skiing (badly), soccer, weight lifting, reading, television/movies/video games.
