King Conservation District and their Urban Forestry Working Group provided $160,700 worth of technical assistance and management support to three urban forestry projects beginning in 2023. In addition, seven projects from previous years will continue to be supported in 2023.
Selected Projects
Seattle – Fruit Tree Pruning
Cascade Ecology was contracted to provide two years of maintenance of 300 fruit trees at three sites across Seattle: Burke Gilman Trail Orchard, East Duwamish Trail, Longfellow Creek Greenspace. The work will include invasive plant removal as necessary to allow access, pruning fruit trees, mulching, and composting unusable fruit, stormwater and erosion controls, and compost pile construction.
Snoqualmie – Snoqualmie Ridge Forest Restoration
Together with Habitat Restoration Specialists, 1- acres of forest in the Snoqualmie Ridge neighborhood will be restored: from invasive plant removal to tree and shrub planting and maintenance.
Woodinville – Forest Management Plan
Using Member Jurisdiction funding, Woodinville has requested a comprehensive plan for forest restoration and volunteer implementation across nine parks and 154 acres. Northwest Natural Resources Group was contracted to carry out the work.
