The 2024 Native Plant Sale Store has launched! You can order your native plants for pickup at the 2024 Native Plant Sale. Visit kingcd.org/plantsale.

KCD’s annual Native Plant Sale offers a variety of native trees, shrubs, and groundcovers for conservation purposes such as wildlife habitat, windbreaks, hedgerows, reforestation and stream enhancement. They also work great on home and garden projects. #NativePlants #NativePlantSale

A unique compilation of twisting trunks and branch

A unique compilation of twisting trunks and branches, the majestic native Garry Oak (Quercus garryana) tree is a striking work of ecological art.

It is an attractive deciduous tree with lobed green leaves and intricate branches, that can live for anywhere from 250 to 500 years and they provide food and shelter for the endangered Western Grey squirrel and a plethora of other native wildlife.

Cows! Cows return about 85% of the nutrients they consume back to the pasture. Grazing, when managed properly, stimulates grass growth, aerates soil, and adds nutrients to the land. “We’re working to heal the land. Much of the past has been taking, and we’re excited to see so many people out here to help with healing.” - Deepa Iyer, Ayeko Farm

Ayeko Farm was founded in 2018 by Victor and Deepa Iyer to create space for BIPOC communities to reconnect with the land and their culture through food and farming. This October, they welcomed KCD and several dozen volunteers out to finish planting a riparian vegetation buffer along Newaukum Creek.

In just a few hours, volunteers planted almost 700 native trees and shrubs on a football field sized stretch of the creek. This buffer will grow to provide shade and habitat for local wildlife including spawning Chinook salmon which make up 85% of the Southern Resident orca diet.

The 2024 Northwest regional competition will be held in person on March 19, 2024 at the Brightwater Environmental Education Center in Woodinville.

King Conservation District (KCD) is recruiting passionate students and educators to participate in the 2024 Northwest Regional competition and will help participating teams Envirothon throughout their journeys. Stay tuned for upcoming presentations, curriculum, and workshops.
