Are you interested in growing fruit trees in your community garden? Join KCD on an orchard tour of Burien community gardens to learn more!
Fruit trees are an exciting addition to your community garden space, but managing them can pose challenges to gardeners. Join King Conservation District and gardeners from two Burien community gardens to learn all about growing fruit trees in a shared garden space.
The tour will start at Hazel Valley Community Garden to learn about planning your orchard, selecting trees and planting. And then the group will travel to New Start Community Garden for an overview of tree care and different options for planting.
At the end of the tour we will make some apple cider to enjoy together, with plenty of time to talk to other gardeners and learn from each other.
Note: This tour will provide an overview of orchard planning and management for shared garden spaces. The topics of pruning and pest management will be covered as well as resources for further learning. However, this is not a pruning or pest management workshop. We can refer you to more specific workshops in the area on those topics.
