Join King Conservation District for a free webinar to learn how you can prepare your Western Washington Farm for wildfire season.

Are you a farmer in King County? Join King Conservation District for a free live webinar on Wednesday, September 15, from 6:00 to 7:30 PM with Matt Axe, KCD’s Wildfire and Forest Resiliency Project Coordinator and Addison Hudson, Environmental Health and Mitigation Response Planner with Seattle and King County Public health. The webinar will cover ways you can protect and reduce wildfire risk for your farm, livestock, and livelihood.

Approximately ten million acres were burned nationally last year due to wildfire events; approximately six million of those burned acres located in the Western United States. The Sumner fire was one of the largest Wildland Urban Interface fires that Western Washington has seen in a long time. Most recently Western Washington has had brush fires get out of hand, putting Western Washington residents at risk. Learn from experts what actions you can take to protect your farm and become more wildfire resilient this fire season.

Attendees will learn about:

  • Fire behavior
  • Creating a Defensible Space around your farm
  • Evacuation plans
  • Protecting yourself and livestock from wildfire smoke
