Each spring YMCA Earth Service Corps hosts an Environmental Symposium with the goal of educating and empowering Puget Sound’s high school youth about local environmental issues. The Symposium consists of a series of 50-minute workshops that inform teens about environmental topics and encourages them to address local environmental issues through meaningful action. This year, at the request of our youth leaders, we are seeking workshop proposals from our community partners. YESC youth will review the proposals and make workshop selections based on their interests and passions.
This year’s event will take place on Thursday, March 21, 2024 from 8:30-1:30. Our tentative location (to be confirmed) is the University of Washington’s Mary Gates Hall. Both indoor lecture space and outdoor areas will be available to presenters. Each workshop will be capped at a maximum of 25 high school students, ages 13-18, from schools throughout the Puget Sound region.
They are seeking hands-on, engaging workshops that will educate and excite youth about the many environmental topics relevant to our community. Included in the proposal form is a sample proposal from a previous workshop that may be helpful, as well as some tips and tricks for an engaging workshop. Organizations are welcome, and encouraged, to submit multiple workshop proposals and some workshops may be offered multiple times during the day based on the level of student interest.
Complete proposals must be received by Wednesday, February 7, 2024.
Thank you in advance for your support in educating and empowering local teens as they become a new generation of environmental stewards.
Groups larger than 5 must register by February 22, 2022. Early bird registration ends February 22, 2022.
Ages: Grades 8 through 12
Registration will end on March 17, 2022.
