Foothill Sedge (Carex tumulicola) is found in western North America, from California to British Columbia. Typically found in meadows and open woodlands, it prefers medium dry to dry soil and partial shade to full sun.

Slow spreading, it grows in clumps or tufts and reaches about 2 feet tall and wide.

It is commonly used as a grasslike ornamental in landscaping to conserve water and provide habitat.
