Regional Food System Program

Established in 2015, this program supports the action plans of King County’s Local Food Initiative and Puget Sound Regional Food Policy Council. KCD implemented a series of initiatives to strengthen our local food economy based on input from a wide range of local food system advisors. Program components include Regional Food System Grants and Early Action Projects.

Community Agriculture

KCD launched the Community Agriculture program in 2015 to supply expertise and resources to schools, individuals, non-profits, and churches, which helps expand access to healthy food and teach important lessons on soil health, water quality, habitat, and natural resource stewardship in the urban landscape.

Farm Conservation Planning

Whether you’re a livestock owner or a crop producer, KCD Resource Planners can help you develop a plan that will meet your land use goals and protect the natural resources on your property. This service is offered free of charge.

Soil Testing Program

Soil nutrient testing can help guide the application of compost and fertilizer, allowing you to optimize plant uptake and minimize water pollution.

Equipment Share Program

KCD has several pieces of farm equipment available for land managers to borrow or rent.

KCD Agricultural Drainage Program

KCD is developing a comprehensive set of services to assist landowners with maintaining and improving agricultural drainage systems.

Discovery Farms

KCD’s Discovery Farms program will evaluate the effectiveness of on-farm conservation practices implemented by KCD and our  cooperators.

Dairy Nutrient Management Planning

KCD provides nutrient management planning assistance to licensed dairies in King County, which helps with 1998 Dairy Nutrient Management Act compliance and Concentrated Animal Feed Operation regulations.

Manure Match

Through Manure Match, landowners who have more manure or compost than they can use on their own property can connect with other landowners seeking a source of nutrients and organic matter for their gardens, pastures and crops.

Pollinator Resources

KCD has complied a variety of resources to help citizens enhance pollinator habitat throughout the area.

Landowner Incentive Program

KCD’s Landowner Incentive Program (LIP) provides landowners with cost-share assistance to support implementation of conservation practices on private property.
