Become a SeaTac Forest Steward

Commit to a park you love! Our Forest Steward program is looking for Seatac residents to support your local forest and your community by practicing restoration in parks throughout SeaTac. As a forest steward, you will receive the tools and training you need in restoration that will allow you to lead your neighbors in transforming your local forests. We have openings for seven paid stewards based on availability and time commitment.

Forest stewards lead important local conservation impacts one volunteer event at a time. When you care for your forests by planting new trees and shrubs, and removing nonnative plants, you allow that forest to give back to your entire community. Healthy urban forests help improve air quality, retain stormwater while preventing erosion, and cool neighborhoods during the hottest months of the year by providing shade. Restoring your forests also helps increase your community’s wellbeing by promoting access to local green spaces. Sound like you’re up for the job? We’re excited to hear from you!

Forest Stewards will receive onsite training in restoration ecology, tools and materials, and support leading volunteer events. To qualify for payment, stewards must commit to seven hours a month for one year, be capable of physical activity like bending over and lifting 25lb, and must live within the city of SeaTac. Join the Green SeaTac Partnership and KCD to improve your city’s forests, connect with your neighbors, and promote healthy outdoor spaces for your community.

Apply by 11:59 pm Sunday, March 8th.

Onboarding and training will take place Thursday, March 26 5:30–7:30 p.m. and Saturday March 28 9:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m.

About the Green SeaTac Partnership:

The Green SeaTac Partnership is a collaborative effort between the City of SeaTac, the Green Cities Network (comprised of other King County jurisdictions), King Conservation District, the Port of Seattle, community groups, nonprofits, schools, businesses and hundreds of volunteers to restore and maintain our forested parks and natural areas.

Through this program, Green SeaTac partners with the community to recruit, train, and support volunteer Forest Stewards to lead forest restoration projects in priority parks. The city aims to build a strong culture of community stewardship, leadership, and partnership to support a healthy urban forest for everyone. The city relies on a network of individuals, organizations, staff and volunteers, all of whom are essential for the success of the partnership.
